York Volleyball Club: 3 - Florida Day School Argentina: 0
Under 18’s from York Volleyball Club played an international volleyball match against students from Florida Day School, Argentina on Monday 4 September.
The friendly match was organised as part of an annual Florida Day School trip to the UK with students aged between 15 and 18 learning more about the UK by visiting some key places.
In addition to the educational visits, the school organises sports matches with teams across the UK as part of the visit which is great experience for all of the players involved.
Both York teams beat the opposition three sets to nil during the two 90-minute matches held at York University Campus then continued to play for fun until time ran out.
Tim Godson, Chairman of York Volleyball Club said:
“The matches against Florida Day School are becoming a highlight of the year for our U18’s. It’s a great opportunity for our teams to gain valuable experience playing against skilled competition and marks the beginning of our next season.
“Our teams are made up of boys and girls aged between 13 and 18 from the York area. They train with the club on a Friday evening and are part of the Yorkshire Junior squad. It is fantastic to see the younger members of the team progress to this level and I look forward to increasing the number of juniors playing volleyball in York.”
York Volleyball Club juniors train at Huntingdon School on a Friday evening welcoming players of all abilities and senior teams train on evenings throughout the week. The Yorkshire regional team plan to enter U14-U18 teams in national competitions during the coming year and are currently looking for players with some volleyball experience to be part of regional training camps, taking place once a month in Leeds.
